75th Anniversary Events

CARA - Helping refugee academics since 1933

We invite you to join The Council for Assisting Refugee Academics in celebrating 75 years of positive action in defence and support of refugee academics forced to leave their country or occupation as a result of political, racial, or religious oppression or discrimination or the fear of such oppression or discrimination.

This important milestone will be marked by the publication of a book capturing violations of academic freedom through the personal stories of persecuted academics; a UK-touring Exhibition, celebrating the extraordinary contributions made by refugee academics to the Sciences, Arts and Humanities since 1933; and a 2-day Conference ‘In Defence of Learning: The Past and the Present’ to be held at The Royal Society.

We also have two exciting fundraising events on the horizon: Cycling for Academic Freedom, Sunday 1st June 2008 and/or Walking in Support of Threatened Academics, 10th May 2008.
