Grants & Fellowships

It is through CARA's grants and fellowship programmes that it provides practical support to displaced, refugee and at-risk academics.

Grants for Refugee Academic support the rebuilding of careers to ensure that refugee academics are able to re-enter the job market at a level commensurate with their skills and experience. Grants are awarded twice yearly in February and August.

Hardship Grants for Iraqi Academics provide small maintenance grants to help those who have lost their livelihoods as a direct result of events in Iraq since 2003. They are available to those displaced within Iraq, or stranded in the region having fled Iraq.

The Fellowship Scheme for Iraqi Academics was introduced in 2007 provided through with the financial support of Arcadia to support doctoral and post-doctoral placements in higher education or research institutions to ensure the continued positive engagement and contribution by Iraqi academics to their fields during this period of uncertainty.  We are most grateful to Arcadia for its financial support of the CARA Fellowship Scheme.

The Pathfinder University Grants Scheme is an institutional grant stream introduced in 2006 with the financial support of Sigrid Rausing Trust, to help universities develop more effective systems, policies and practices in support of refugee and at-risk academics.
