Leave a Gift in your Will

Leave a Gift in your Will

'I should like to express my sincere thanks to this organisation. It has given me immense satisfaction to have made some contribution to the benefit of the country which gave me hospitality when I came here as a refugee from the Nazis.’
Ernst Chain, Nobel Prize winner and CARA grantee, 1945

The academics CARA works with have been forced to flee their country and have often lost everything - leaving a gift to CARA in your will can make a lasting change to their future.

Any gift you leave in your will is exempt from Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax. It is easy to make a will - and important too.

If you would like your gift to benefit CARA, you need to make that clear in your will. Please do ensure you receive independent, professional advice when making your will. We suggest using the following wording (as appropriate):

Residuary legacy
I give the whole of my real and personal property not hereby or by any codicil hereto specifically disposed of after payment of my debts pecuniary legacies funeral and administration expenses and any taxes in respect of estate to The Council for Assisting Refugee Academics (registered charity number 207471) of London South Bank University Technopark, 90 London Road, London, SE1 6LN. I further direct that the receipt of the Legacy Officer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge for my Executors/Trustees.

Pecuniary legacy
I give the sum of £______ to The Council for Assisting Refugee Academics (registered charity number 207471) of London South Bank University Technopark, 90 London Road, London, SE1 6LN. I further direct that the receipt of the Legacy Officer for the time being or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge for my Executors/Trustees.

Please contact CARA's Development Manager if you would like to receive further information about the work of the organisation or further information about leaving a gift in your will. She can be contacted at joyce.cara@lsbu.ac.uk or 0207 902 7703.
