Network for Education & Academic Rights (NEAR)
Despite CARA’s focus, it isn’t of course just academics who suffer violations of academic freedom. Teachers, students and unionists from all over the world are equally subject to breaches of academic freedom and instances of discrimination and harassment from the curtailment of research activities to detention and murder. They remain commonplace violations that demand wider attention and visibility and it was to draw attention to all these violations that the
Network for Education & Academic Rights (NEAR) was born.
Hosted by CARA, NEAR facilitates international collaboration between organisations active in issues of academic freedom and educational rights. Thought its website and timely alerts to its members. NEAR draws international attention to violations of academic freedom and educational rights in the form of ‘Urgent Action’ appeals, providing a critical campaign resource and information exchange forum.
