The UK Programme

The UK Programme provides grants to enable refugee academics to return to academia, or an allied profession, in the UK at a level commensurate with their skills and experience. Grants can support refugee academics to re-qualify in a range of professions in the UK such as teaching, academia, engineering, law, the charity sector and medicine etc.

The CARA Allocation Committee will meet in June 2013 to review applications and award grants.  Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application in the week following the meeting.

The deadline for applications is Friday 12th April 2013 at 17:00.  Applicants must ensure that they have sent all required documents to CARA before this time in order for their applications to be considered.

Types of funding

We can support requalification courses or structured work placements that are clearly linked to employment. Types of funding include tuition fees, travel, registration fees, exam fees, bench fees, books, research costs, IT equipment and childcare. Please also see Frequently Asked Questions.

If you believe you are eligible, please contact CARA to request an Enquiry Form, which once completed and returned, will allow us to verify your eligibility.

Please note that the Enquiry Form is not a Grant Application Form. We will only invite you to complete a full Application Form if you are eligible and have an offer of a place on a suitable course/placement.
